Position Description: Program Manager

A Program Manager to support the Northern California Region in program development and implementation of the strategic plan has become available for project oriented, organized, motivated problem solver. This includes communicating with interns during the summer to meet their internship objectives, management of summer programming and event logistics.

The HCC Program Manager will take a lead in implementing a multi-faceted personal and professional development program that will empower a diversity of less advantaged, highly capable undergraduate students to successfully achieve a rewarding health career. To be successful in the position, you must be solution oriented, organized, and comfortable working with diverse teams.

    This role is very hands-on, people focused and detail oriented for candidates interested in sharpening their technical, communication, and resource management skills. It would be a great fit for someone comfortable working on a virtual team and can maintain high productivity as a self-starter.

    Key Responsibilities:

  •   Curriculum Development: Development and review of summer program curriculum and summer program work plan. This includes research, writing, and creative application of professional development workshops and advising.

  •   Mentorship: Check in with interns and provide mentorship. Oversee planning of mentoring and networking opportunities in the Northern CA region.

  •   Relationship Management Check in and maintain relationships with host organizations and sites during the summer program. Connect with preceptors during the summer to ensure positive internship experience for host and interns.

  •   Writing & Formal Reporting: Data Analysis and evaluation of reports on various platforms such as Survey Monkey. Data driven analysis will inform other aspects of summer programming and implementation of overall strategy.

  •   Communications: Review and oversee process for all oral, written, and verbal communication regarding summer programming events, reminders, and deliverables to interns. This includes establishing consistent communication with interns throughout summer program and evaluation.

  •   Event Planning: Oversee planning, organizing, and creating marketing materials for summer workshops, alumni mixers, and site tours. Working with the Program Coordinators to research venues, reserving accommodations for guests and students, and communicating with vendors and caterers.

  •   (2) years of relevant work experience in project management, coordination, or event planning.

  •   Experience with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

  •   Expertise with data base development and management programs preferred.

  •   Strong written and verbal communication skills including proofreading abilities and attention to detail.

  •   Familiarity with Social Media marketing and platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn).

  •   Creative problem solving skills, flexible, self-starting abilities and willingness to learn.

  •   Personable and positive, with a demonstrated respect for diverse populations.

  •   Strong organizational skills, and ability to maintain confidential nature of data and information.

    Health Career Connection, Inc. is a national non-profit dedicated to inspiring and empowering undergraduate students to choose and successfully pursue health careers. HCC’s goals are to:

    1) Support students of color and disadvantaged students to realize their potential and become health leaders
    2) Connect them to health organizations and graduate health professions schools seeking access to diverse talent and;
    3) Contribute to increasing the diversity of health leaders and professionals.

    Over the last 26 years, HCC has provided undergraduate students with exposure, experience and mentoring to pursue health careers. HCC’s primary vehicle has been our comprehensive paid summer internship program in 8 regions nationwide (Northern CA, Southern CA, Central Valley, Coachella Valley, New England, North Carolina, New York/New Jersey, and Washington DC). These educational opportunities focus on college students pursuing careers in healthcare management and policy, health education, community health, and other public health options. HCC does not offer medical or clinical internships but does offer internships to students interested in clinical careers and one of our other priority areas.
