Job Description                 

Kaiser Permanente's mission is to provide high quality, affordable health care services and to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve. As part of The Permanente Medical Group, Quality and Operations Support (QOS) delivers information, analysis, and consulting expertise for quality and operational performance improvement. 

 The purpose of the Quality and Operations Support summer internship is to:

  • Recruit highly qualified and talented interns to complete high priority, strategic project work that will improve department and Kaiser Permanente, Northern California (KPNC) operations;
  • Assess fit and interest for full-time hire with QOS, based on business need, and within KP;
  • Provide exposure to QOS and KPNC operations, leadership, strategy and organizational structure;
  • Facilitate networking and collaboration with other interns and KPNC departments to broaden organizational understanding and advance QOS project outcomes.

 We are seeking motivated interns to contribute to highly strategic projects, ranging from optimizing the use of new systems to ensuring we lead the industry in quality benchmarks.  Examples of past internship projects include:

  • Identify ways to improve usability and efficiency of digital images attached to secure messages by patients to their physicians.
  • Creation of a Chronic Conditions Management Dashboard to facilitate local and regional leadership understanding of CCM program operations.
  • Cost-benefit analysis of an interactive voice recognition program to enhance member response to outreach for colorectal cancer screening.
  • Design and pilot an ED/Inpatient CT scan throughput study to analyze workflow demand, identify bottlenecks and potential solutions, and provide accurate “time for procedure”.

 Job Requirements                 

Knowledge and basic understanding of healthcare administration and the industry. Masters level training preferred, undergraduate level training considered. Understanding of the principles of statistics, business, and healthcare policy and administration. Demonstrated analytic and consulting skills, including communication and presentation skills, preferred. Proficiency with PC applications such as Excel, Access, and Word.  Commitment to work for minimum of 10 weeks. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship (examples of sponsorship include OPT, F-1, J-1, H1B).
