Job Summary

JOB OVERVIEW
The Research Assistant will provide support for educational research activities of the education research programs within the Center for Faculty Educators (CFE). These activities and responsibilities will include: performing literature searches; assisting with literature reviews; maintaining bibliographic databases; creating and managing qualitative and quantitative datasets; assisting with data collection and analysis for various educational research projects, such as Entrustable Professional Activities (qualitative and quantitative); assisting with preparation, modification, and renewal of human subjects (IRB) protocols; assisting with manuscript and grant preparation; and providing meeting support (Scheduling, taking notes, distributing notes, action items, agendas). For these activities, the Research Assistant will report to both the Principal Investigator (PI) of a particular grant and the administrative director of the CFE. Both roles will be funded for the stated period, with the possibility of a longer-term position if additional funding is secured.

Please note: This is a 50-100% career appointment.

The Center for Faculty Educators (CFE) is a unit within the Office of Medical Education (OME) comprised of seven staff who provide administrative services to the Academy of Medical Educators (AME), faculty developers, education researchers, and volunteer faculty educators. The CFE staff provide support for faculty members and other health professionals in finding opportunities for teaching, skills development, mentorship, scholarly collaboration, and recognition of achievement in their roles as teachers and educational researchers. 

CENTER FOR FACULTY EDUCATORS
The Center for Faculty Educators (CFE) is a unit within OME comprised of seven staff who provide administrative services to the Academy of Medical Educators (AME), faculty developers and education researchers, and volunteer faculty educators. The CFE staff provide support for faculty members and other health professionals in finding opportunities for teaching, skills development, mentorship, scholarly collaboration, and recognition of achievement in their roles as teachers and educational researchers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
    • At least one year of working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures, supporting faculty in a social science, education or psychological research environment
    • Experience processing data sets using SPSS quantitative data analysis software
    • Experience creating codebooks and documenting data analysis steps
    • Experience with qualitative research methods and data analysis
    • Experience conducting literature searches
    • Working knowledge of research function
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint
    • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing
    • Strong technical, analytical and customer service skills
    • Close attention to detail; excellent time management skills; excellent written and spoken communication skills; customer service orientation
    • Ability to effectively work both independently and collaboratively in a team whose members are often offsite
    • Independent, highly organized, efficient and flexible to manage often disparate responsibilities associated with support to medical education research and faculty development
    • Ability to cope with many types of work during the day, from detail-oriented data preparation and analysis, to more people-oriented publicity, focus-group administration

    Note: Physical/health screening required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with survey design and creation using Qualtrics, including branching logic; Remark scanning software; reference management applications; manuscript formatting for submission to academic journals
    • Proficiency with bibliographic and qualitative software
    • Experience working with iMedRIS and the Institutional Review Board (IRB)
    • Proficiency using EndNote and Zotero
    • Experience providing training for and documenting research processes
    • Advanced knowledge of NVivo or Dedoose qualitative research software
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple ongoing projects
